For Frieze New York 2017, Various Small Fires is pleased to present a curated booth of works by American artists spanning several generations that employ sardonic humor to wrestle with the cognitive dissonance of the United States’ seemingly perpetual state of war. Although abstracted and anesthetized by distance, digital media, and drones, these works reveal how the tragedy of a nation mired in overseas conflicts weighs heavily in the recesses of our collective and individual consciousness.
The booth presents new paintings and sculptures by artists from the VSF program: Jessie Homer French, The Harrisons, Mernet Larsen, Liz Magic Laser, Andrea Longacre-White, Joshua Nathanson, B. Thom Stevenson and Amy Yao. All works in the booth will have their first public debut.
